Gerald DeRossett

Gerald Delton DeRossett, 85, loving husband, father, grandfather and life long public servant who cared deeply for his community of Prestonsburg, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at his residence.

He was born August 18, 1935 in Prestonsburg, to the late Alex & Loma Warrix DeRossett.

He was the husband of the late Cora Katherine “Katie” Burton DeRossett. He was a retired worker from KY West Virginia Gas Company and former Magistrate of District One. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Prestonsburg and also attended Auxier Freewill Baptist Church and Bonanza Freewill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his children: Gerald Douglas DeRossett of Bull Creek, John Bryant (Linda) DeRossett of Bull Creek, Leslie Elizabeth (Chris) DeRossett Fannin of Spurlock, and James Alex (Courtney) DeRossett of Prestonsburg; grandchildren: Zachary Gerad (Hannah) Ousley, Alexis Ashley DeRossett, Allyson Kate DeRossett, Madelyn Elizabeth Ousley, Riley Katherine DeRossett & Emma Elizabeth DeRossett; great grandchild: Joshua Bryant DeRossett; nieces and nephew: Caroline (Mike) Patrick of Saylersville, Tammy DeRossett of Middle Creek, Debbie Mollohan of South Charleston, West Virginia, and Steve (Kathy) Basham of Hamlin, West Virginia, as well as a host of great nieces, family & friends.

Along with his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his brothers and sister: John Alex DeRossett, Derl Bryant (Cleo) DeRossett & Clara Lucille (Douglas) Garrett.

He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

Visitation was held Friday, December 18, 2020, at the Auxier Freewill Baptist Church.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, December 19, 2020, at Auxier Freewill Baptist Church, Auxier, with Rev. Bill Campbell and Bobby Joe Spencer officiating.

Burial followed in the DeRossett Family Cemetery, Right Fork of Bull Creek, Prestonsburg.

Pallbearers were James DeRossett, Gerald DeRossett, Zach Ousley, John DeRossett & Chris Fannin.

Honorary pallbearer, Joshua B. DeRossett.

Arrangements were under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home of Martin.

Colby Dalton Reed, 20, of Pikeville, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020.

He was born on December 31, 1999, to Wendy Reed Mullins of Pikeville and the late Steven Dwayne Thacker.

Other than his father he was preceded in death by his grandmother; Kathy Thacker and his grandfather; Wendell Reed.

Besides his mother he is survived by his step father; Chad Mullins, his fiancé; Brandy Compton, his grandfather; Steve Baird of Virginia, his grandmother; Lydia Reed of Morristown, TN, two daughters; Olivia Compton and Leah Mae Compton both of the home, three brothers; Brayden Mullins of Pikeville, Aaron Mullins of Pikeville, Riley Newsome of Floyd County, three sisters; Jasmine Mullins of Pikeville, Alyssa Newsome of Floyd County, Shilah Newsome of Floyd County, his special aunts and uncles; Joe and Cindy Reed, Jonathon and Tara Kidd along with a host of cousins, family and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 18, 2020, at the Hall and Jones Funeral Home with Darren Iricks officiating.

Burial followed in the Fields Cemetery at Island Creek.

Garfield Thacker

Garfield Thacker, 70 of Shelbiana, died Thursday, December 17, 2020 at the Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born on May 1, 1950, to the late Frank and Josie Thacker. He was a retired coal miner and the Moderator of Greasy Creek Old Regular Baptist Church.

Other than his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers: Hazard Thacker and Jewett Thacker; two sisters: Aliene Conway and Geneva Conway.

He is survived by his wife, Diana Robinson Thacker; two sons: James Garfield (Jerri) Thacker of Pompey, Eric Tyler Thacker of Georgetown; two daughters: Sherry Lynn (Kevin) Miracle of Pompey, Christine (Steven) Damron of Little Creek; four brothers: Frank Thacker Jr, of Pompey, A.B. Thacker of Pompey, Donnie Lee Thacker of Pompey, Joe Vanus Thacker of Pompey; two sisters: Alice Thacker of Pompey, Berna Blackburn of Pompey; five grandchildren: Briana Miracle, Linsey Miracle, Jacob Thacker, Jalyn Thacker and Eric Tyler Thacker.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Sunday, December 20, at Greasy Creek Old Regular Baptist Church with Old Regular Baptist Ministers officiating.

Burial followed in the Thacker Family Cemetery at Lower Pompey.

Arrangements were under the direction of Hall and Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.

Alta Jean Howard Vanderpool, 88, of Lebanon, Ohio, formerly of Floyd County, died Wednesday, December 16, 2020.

Jimmy Wise

Jimmy Stanton Wide, 83, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Jimmy was born on July 25, 1937, in Garrett, to Jaye (Hicks) Wise Johnson and Carl Garfield Wise. He married Valerie (Hamm) Wise on June 5, 1971. They raised one daughter Shirley (Wise) Willis.

Jimmy worked as a printer for many years. He had a passion for woodworking, drawing, painting and Kentucky Wildcat Basketball. He was a Kentucky Colonel and belonged to many clubs and organizations. He was a proud Alumni of Kentucky School for The Deaf where he was an Advocate for the deaf community all the way through the state level. Jimmy was well known in his hometown of Prestonsburg, for his quick wit, infectious smile, kind heart and compassionate spirit.

He is survived by his beloved wife: Valerie Wise of Richmond; his daughter and son-in-law:  Shirley and Terry Willis, Jr. and one granddaughter Alexandria Jaye Willis all of Richmond; his sisters: Glenda Bingham of Kingston, Tennessee, and Charly Wise of Prestonsburg; one brother Grant (Satomi) Wise of Honolulu, Hawaii, and several nieces, nephews and cousins all whom he loved dearly.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his father Carl Garfield Wise, mother Jaye (Hicks) Wise Johnson, stepmother Beatrice Wise, sister Shirley Sue Wise and one brother Skip Parson.

Funeral Services were held Thursday, December 17, 2020, at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home in Richmond, with Rev. Kevin Hamilton officiating.

Burial followed in the Madison County Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks any monetary donations to help cover expenses be mailed to Valerie Wise, 700 Amber Hill Drive Richmond, KY 40475.

Arrangements were under the direction of Combs, Parsons and Collins Funeral Home of Richmond.
