On Oct. 4, a “Back the Blue” rally was held in Prestonsburg so that individuals could show their support and appreciation for those individuals who help protect and serve the public. Event organizer Roger Ford said that what’s currently going on regarding “stereotyping” law enforcement in the world is something he just “can’t understand” as those men and women are the first people citizens call when danger occurs. The event featured several speakers and notable guests, one of which included Prestonsburg Mayor Les Stapleton, who spoke, not as the mayor, but as a former law enforcement officer. Stapleton said the purpose of the rally was to not be antagonistic towards any other movement occurring gin the world today, but just to show love and support for those men and women, of different races, who protect and serve communities, while protecting the public.
