On Dec. 16, members of the Prestonsburg Police Department met at the Mountain Arts Center for some training. Led by certified instructor and former Kentucky State Police trooper, Prestonsburg Mayor Les Stapleton, the officers received training regarding how to properly deploy a spike strip in the case of a high-speed pursuit. The training featured a video presentation, which was followed by a written assessment that officers needed to receive a passing score. After the assessment, officer then went outside and received hands-on deployment training during a mock high-speed chase. Pictured, officers try their hand at deploying the practice strip, which featured no spikes, during a mock pursuit that took place safely outside the MAC.
