On Jan. 4, at the Martin Community Center, a small gathering was held to swear in two members of the Floyd County Board of Education. The ceremony was kicked off by Prestonsburg Mayor Les Stapleton who thanked everyone in attendance and congratulated the board member being sworn in. Floyd County Judge-Executive Robbie Williams then proceeded to swear in “Coach” Junior Newsome, who is beginning his second term, and newly elected member Steve Slone. New board member Keith Smallwood was unable to attend, but was sworn in at an earlier date. The ceremony was held prior to the board’s 6:30 p.m. meeting, which was held virtually.
